Friday, February 12, 8:00 p.m. The Renaissance Virtuoso John Tyson, recorder Judith Linsenberg, recorder Miyuki Tsurutani, harpsichord Bay Area favorite, Judith Linsenberg (of Musica Pacifica), joins John Tyson and Miyuki Tsurutani (of the New England Conservatory of Music) in a concert illustrating the fun and freedom of fast-flying fingers as they play Sonatas, diminutions and improvisations. Music by Bassano, dalla Casa, Dowland, Merula, and Pete Rose, to name just a few. Don’t miss a rare opportunity to hear this trio in the Bay Area. Sunday, February 21, 7:30 PM Voices of Music presents: Bach Violin Sonatas: Bach's finest chamber music. Carla Moore, baroque violin; Hanneke van Proosdij, harpsichord; William Skeen, baroque cello and David Tayler, archlute. Bach's finest chamber music? A bold claim, indeed, but one made by Bach's son. Reminiscing about Bach's Six Sonatas for Obbligato Harpsichord and Solo Violin (Sei Sounate a Cembalo certato e Violino Solo), Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach wrote: "The six harpsichord trios are among my dear father's best works. Even after more than fifty years, they still sound excellent, and are delightful." Our program will feature both the Sonatas with Continuo as well as the "Harpsichord Trios." We will also include one of Bach's early works, the rarely performed Fugue in G minor BWV 1026. Works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Pizzetti, Granados, as well as the more modern composers Samuel Barber, Ernst Bacon, and Alexander Tcherepnin, are featured, many of which have never been recorded before. Each piece is in its original language. Accompanists are prominent Bay Area pianists Miles Graber and Christopher Salocks.
